Agenda 2030: Article 10: Reduced inequalities
Goal 10 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda speaks to the very heart of Mus-e's mission: reducing inequality within and between nations.The most recent research demonstrates a clear fact: children from disadvantaged cultural, social, and economic backgrounds are the same children who have the most difficulty pursuing their studies and breaking free from their starting conditions. The economic and educational poverty that characterizes their communities and their families creates a state of fragility from the outset, which severely impacts the child's future.
Mus-e, by its very nature, cannot address this form of inequality by addressing the key factors that cause it. However, we can do a great deal to address at least some of these indicators: thanks to Mus-e, many children discover the beauty of playing an instrument, painting or working with clay, dancing, and visiting a museum. For three years, mentored by professional artists, they come into contact with beauty, completely free of charge for the school and their families.
In this way, Mus-e allows even the most disadvantaged children to approach a language, that of art, which is fundamental for the development of non-cognitive skills, and therefore for their future.
In particular, Mus-e Cyprus fully adheres to target 10.2, strengthening and promoting social inclusion regardless of age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic status, or other factors.
We are convinced that art, in all its forms, is a universal language that eliminates barriers and should be accessible to all children, especially at the most fertile age for their future development.
What are our goals for 2030?
- Intervene more in contexts characterized by great inequality (suburbs, areas with a large presence of foreign citizens), to allow all children access to art and beauty.
- Triple the number of children involved in Cyprus: currently, there are about 400, but we would like to involve many more!
- Intensify our efforts nationwide, especially in the most marginalized areas, the outskirts of large cities, and the most isolated territories.
